Private Sector Influence Index

A structural read on how exposed a policy environment is to undue private-sector influence.

PSII Core v2 compares structural conditions across countries. It is an annual screening tool for policy and research, not a record of influence events.

Score direction. Higher score = more resilient, less structurally susceptible to undue private-sector influence. Scores are displayed to 3 decimals, which is the precision the release publishes and not a claim of accuracy to that digit.
Not a causal proof. PSII scores describe structural conditions. They do not prove that any specific company, network, or foreign commercial actor influenced a particular event, crisis, or policy decision.

Research origin

PSII originated in the creator's SAIS capstone and Philippines/South China Sea field research. The public dashboard translates that research question into a cautious annual structure: what conditions make policy environments more resilient, or more susceptible, to undue private-sector influence?

Version separation

PSII Published v1

The 2023 published edition is archival and tied to the original publication. It is not merged into the annual Core v2 rankings.

PSII Core v2

The annual structural index uses the revised v2 methodology. It is resilience-oriented and not numerically identical to the chapter table.

Explorer-first

The product leads with a ranked comparison, dimension drilldowns, published sensitivity ranges, and completeness status.

No choropleth-first view

A map is deliberately deferred until coverage is broad enough that colour would not imply a finding the data cannot carry.

Draft release only

The current JSON release is provisional. No canonical release is selected, and nothing here should be cited as a published PSII score.
